Who Are Hildegirls?

HILDE GIRLS ARE...
Daughters, sisters, wives, lovers, mothers, and friends. They contribute to the world as homemakers, corporate executives, teachers, lawyers, students, artists & entrepreneurs.

Hilde Girls come from many spiritual traditions. They are Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus. They are Jews, Native Americans and Protestants of all denominations. They are women with no faith or religious affiliation. Some are Roman Catholics, even nuns like Hildegard. Many of whom had severed ties with the Church when dogma overshadowed the ritual and mystery they so loved as children. For them Hildegard’s chants and the supportive community of women evokes a sense of homecoming.

The Hilde Girls experience brings out the childlike exuberance in each woman. Even the most sophisticated woman giggles and cries, awestruck by the sound of her awakened voice and the joy of her open heart.

Each woman brings her views and experiences into a space where all backgrounds and beliefs are honored.

A Hilde Girl does not need to have any prior singing experience. Just a desire to learn and an open heart. For more information contact Susan Lincoln.

TESTIMONIALS
The Voices of Hilde Girls

"An opening heart is a beautiful thing. Though very tender and easily hurt. A wise sister standing by to encourage –And love – is essential."
Lissie

“I was so impressed by Susan’s compassion. Here she was such an accomplished, professional singer and she was able to listen to us as we sang the Hildegard phrases and say encouraging things like, “You’ve got it!” and “Let it flow through you.” Susan was commenting more about our hearts and our willingness to open to the music than our singing ability. “At the retreat I took off the armor that I wear to protect myself and opened up. When I went back into the ‘real world’ I felt that the old armor didn’t fit anymore. So I have to make a choice – I can keep it off or cram myself back into it.”
Carita

“When I heard about Hildegard’s belief that all things in this world are made up of music, I was skeptical. After a weekend of singing her music, it felt like my whole body, maybe even my being, was vibrating. It was as though singing in the group had awakened my body’s molecular structure to the core. “Susan has a gift for getting the group to ‘sing into that place’ – not just singing the note but breathing deeply and tuning into the note’s vibration like a tuning fork. Even people who thought they couldn’t sing tuned in beautifully. Singing Hildegard’s music made me feel like I could tune into my own level of vibration as well as the levels of living things around me --- wind, trees, bees, flowers.”

“I was so impressed by Susan’s gentleness, joyfulness, and playfulness. I appreciated her skill at building a safe container and her power to reach into me and pull out the song in my soul.
“The highlight of the retreat was being in song for a whole weekend. And that there was a song for every reason - eating, sleeping, weeping, grieving, joy, greening, circling, leaving. I felt like I had touched my soul.” • “After the weekend I found that I wanted to sing everyday and rejoice. I went home and worked in my garden and took some long awaited ‘me’ time. I wanted to honor myself, nature, my child and my husband. I realized how dead my life has been to song and pleasure. Now I listen to music and sing whenever I can.”
Sue

“Every time I sing ‘Ave Generosa’ I weep with awe and joy. Not only do I acknowledge the blessed nature of Mary; I also see and bow to the Divine presence that I am. “I had believed for years that I couldn’t sing even though as a child I loved glee club and singing in the choir. Singing with Hilde Girls helped me accept the sound of my own voice on many levels. Now when I hear my voice in song, in anger, in request, I am beginning to accept my power as a woman, a writer and a child of God.”
Linda

"I have claimed my voice and light. I was able to speak my truth to my husband and our relationship has blossomed because of it! AH, to breathe in air and breathe out confident light! Thank you for guiding this portion of my journey. You gave me permission to see the confidence I had inside and to speak my truth!"

"When a session is over I suddenly realize that I’m rejuvenated! Singing, toning and sharing with such beautiful beings of Light is a joy!"

"Singing Hilde’s music has enriched my life beyond measure. Finding the life force of my voice has brought me closer to God, opening me more to God than I could ever believe imaginable. Hildegard’s music helps me feel how connected everything is. Hildegard’s music is about remembrance… Remembering who I am, my essence. The singing, the awareness of breath, has been a really big healing process for me. When I was a young adult I suffered from tremendous anxiety. Just being aware of my breath and body is a deeper healing than I’ve ever experienced.
Debra

"I have experienced a deep feeling of acceptance by women in the group, as well as myself… An invaluable experience in that from now on, whatever or wherever my life path, I can carry the assurance that I am OK. And for those who come into my life who don’t feel so OK, I can help them to feel that they really and truly are… A self-healing that means healing others.

"I have rarely felt so loved, held and cared for as I have in our group. Sometimes when I have to miss, I still feel like I am being held. I was at a funeral the other day. The man speaking talked about the love he felt when all the family was gathered at the gravesite of the woman who died and he said he thought that must be what heaven feels like. I thought about Hilde Girls, about the love that overflows in our group, and I knew that we could have that on earth. • Another thing I’ve been trying to do for years without knowing how, is to live in the moment. My life has been divided between the world of academia that demands constant critical thinking, goal orientation and competition, and the world of mothering that demands patience, appreciation of simple things and living in the moment. I have not adjusted well to the different demands of these two worlds. I have mourned for the hours I have missed with my children even when I am with them because I haven’t been able to get my mind to stop racing. I have wanted to be more present so that I can enjoy these fleeting moments with my children. In concrete ways you have shown me how to be in the moment. For the first time in many, many years I see a glimmer of what contentment might look like.
• I want so much to share this experience of love and acceptance with all the women I know. I think to myself, if I could just bring a little bit of Hilde to all my interactions with women, maybe we could all become more loving and maybe it would be safer for us to be ourselves.

"The majority of the people in my life that I hang out with are Hilde Girls and it’s because we share this common goal. It has become this amazing healing circle of women who are all on this path to be of service and learn how to claim our own power. • (Hilde Girls) has become a place where it is not only about us. It’s about how we sing these songs for people who are in our lives. It’s not just about our own healing; it’s about how we can take it out into our everyday lives. • I’ve always used my body but I never used my voice. Even though I have always been a very outgoing, social person, I would never let people know what was really going on inside. I’m really learning how to use my voice. What I’ve learned in Hilde Girls is how I can use (my voice) coming from my heart, from a place of love."
Linda

"Susan describes the body as an instrument and shows us how to play it. (The songs) are hard in the objective sense but when she’s teaching them it’s just so easy. We get so comfortable that when we get to that part of the song we melt into that phrase. • The songs rise out of the earth and flow through my body as the wind blows through holes in a stone or through holes in a tree. It’s as though when I’m singing (Hildegard’s) music I don’t produce notes; the notes just flow through my body. • I don’t sing every single day. Things get hectic and I don’t get to sing. But it’s just a better day when I start out singing.
Susan has a way of bringing us to a very deep place easily. She encourages us to see each other on the essence level. If you’re seeing someone on the essence level it doesn’t matter if you just me them that night. • (Through Hilde Girls) you have this network of people; you have a common ground with them. There is something deep and understood with the other women. It’s like you’re sisters, sisters of the heart."
